Speed up UI
It would be great to have inline editing instead of loading a new page every time an epic or story needs to be edited. Speeding up load times would also be great!
Hi,
We have implemented number of improvements that were suggested in this thread and now the ScrumBoard Drag n Drop experience is better and performance is improved too, along with Velocity calculations and other things.
Hopefully, you will enjoy the new ScrumBoard and other improved functionality at Yodiz.

Hi Marcin,
Yes we are aware of those JQuery based client side frameworks, but it would require us to rewrite almost whole app and would take significant resources and time.
We try to do new features in those client side asynchronous frameworks.
For now, we have optimized ScrumBoard, improved performance, Drag n Drop experience and much nicer UI. It will be available with next release coming in 1-2 weeks.

I think the key would be make server updates asynchronous. Currently it seems every action needs to be confirmed by server before UI gets responsive again. If you go to trello.com I'm pretty sure it does not wait for server-side update - you can move everything around virtually instantly.

Hi,
We are investigating this, suddenly we see that Yodiz slows down in certain regions. It is either hosting issue at our Amazon servers or some configuration. Anyhow we are investigating it and will try to resolve it as soon as possible.
Sorry for inconvenience.

I guess I should have noted in my comment that it was more generic, not specific to the Epic UI as the original poster wrote. In most of your app you do in fact have inline editing, of course, but the server roundtrips make it feel slow.
To be fair, though, I've been pretty satisfied with Yodiz so far -- enough that I spun up a small R&D team on it today and will grow our usage if it works well.

I find the pages load fast enough, but the primary issue with speed is one of user perception.
For example, let's say I move a task from "New" to "In Progress." The task disappears for a moment, presumably to do a server roundtrip. Then it reappears finally in the In Progress section about 3 seconds later. This is all very disconcerting, and gives the impression that the UI is slow.
What you should be doing is what I would call "speculative execution." If I take an action, like moving a task, don't wait for the server roundtrip to complete to show the action as being done. Instead, just do the action on the screen, do the server roundtrip in the background, and let me know if there's some sort of connection error (which should be rare). This technique would vastly improve the perceived speed of your site.

Hi,
Thanks for your comments. Kindly try again the service and do let us know if you face any issue.
Yodiz seems to be running at quite good speed all across globe. We just verified through our analytic and Average load time in USA for last one month is just 3.3 secs.
Last Friday there was slowness for short period of time, but other than that, things looks quite good.
We do run Yslow and Pagespeed time to time and yesterday ran again.
Our performance team in Finland made tests and Google PageSpeed results are pretty good. For example Teampulse page got 91 score and Agile recent activities got 93 score from Google's Pagespeed test.
Interestingly, these scores seems to be better than Pivotal tracker.
We do take performance very seriously and try to deliver best experience. Our servers are based in US at Amazon EC2 and RDS, which are industry leader in hosting domains.
Anyhow, we will keep on monitoring performance more closely and if there is anything we find out we will try to fix it immediately.
Kindly try again Yodiz and do let us know if you still face performance issues.
We are sorry for any inconvenience it may have caused.
Best Regards,

Other things you should look into is your hosting and your DB.

Any page takes ages to load (at least in US). Looking at your page source you are not following the best practices for a snappy UI. Try to use YSlow or Google PageSpeed to get suggestions on what to do.

Hi,
Thanks for the feedback. Epics are something which is still in development, we are discussing with our clients on usage pattern of Epics and would improve it further.
If you look at other experiences in Yodiz e.g., ScrumBoard and ReleaseBoard, things are quite quick, with inline Edits and pop-ups.
Our goal is to improve Epics into same direction.
We appreciate your ideas for Epic and Yodiz.
